Law student realises the importance of a study break

Student Contribution: Madeleine French

Mia was the epitome of a dedicated law student. Her days blurred into nights as she immersed herself in case law, living on caffeine and determination. One evening, driven by the belief that her success hinged on sheer effort, Mia decided to undertake what she called a “Marathon of Legal Precedent.” Her goal: to read and summarize every case in her textbooks before the end of the week.

As days passed, her friends noticed Mia's dwindling energy and constant isolation. On the fifth day, Kenny, worried about Mia's well-being, intervened. He dragged Mia out of her apartment for a walk in the park.

At first, Mia grumbled, feeling guilty about the interruption. But the fresh air, beautiful trees and the sight of dogs playing in the park brought an unexpected clarity. She watched as life went by imagining all the possible scenarios that could spark a legal claim and mumbling to herself, she would run through her arguments.

When Mia returned to her studies, she felt rejuvenated. The mix of hard work and light-heartedness transformed her approach. She finished her exam preparation with a balanced mindset, realising that a bit of fresh air and humour could be as essential as hard work.
