Melbourne is a city of many things, and one that likes to portray itself as one that is quite hip - like that one person at a party that you just can’t escape talking to. One of these ‘niche’ interests is our love for coffee, and whilst this author admits that our coffee is the best, you can’t disagree that we have developed a rather alarming obsession with alternative milk.
Unfortunately this obsession has been long term for our Deakin law students who are self-proclaimed coffee-addicts. One of the most common things asked after questions like “What’s your double?”, “Why are you studying law?” and “What week in content are you up to?” is “What kind of milk do you have with your coffee?”. Heaven forbid you answer regular, as this is pretty much a one-way ticket to being ostracised from your friendship group.
This is a curious obsession, however one that can be pretty easily explained. Law students have very little going for them in their lives, with their personalities centred around their study of law and their conversations revolving around their readings, internships and next career moves. Therefore, it makes sense that they try to attach drinking an alternative milk to their personality in an attempt to prove they have a life. However this brings me back to my initial question, does drinking alternative milk actually turn you into an interesting person?
