PLT SPOTLIGHT:
OCTOBER EDITION

The Leo Cussen Centre for Law is a Practical Legal Training (PLT) provider, designed to provide high-quality education and training to legal professionals at all stages of their career.

“…we continue to be recognised as a centre of excellence for providing high quality practical legal training. Our Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice is highly comprehensive and well respected by the legal profession.”

Alongside the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, Leo Cussen also offers Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and traineeships for entry-level lawyers, overseas lawyers seeking admission in Australia, lawyers needing to requalify, and legal support staff.

Leo Cussen was established in 1972. Its namesake, Sir Leo Cussen, was a leading judge and jurist in Australia best known for his two consolidations of all the Acts of the Parliament of Victoria.

Leo Cussen has a range of offerings for PLT students. Its blended program involves predominantly online contact, with 13 days of face-to-face instruction. The onsite course has students coming into its Melbourne CBD Centre full time. There are also weekend options available for those working full time or otherwise busy during business hours.

“At Leo Cussen, our trainees learn how to practise law in a very professional, yet friendly and engaging environment.”

We believe that practical legal training should be just that, practical. That’s why both our onsite and online training programs incorporate small group training, comprehensive and personalised mentoring and feedback, to provide the finest practical training experience.

Regardless of the mode of study, Leo Cussen students enjoy access to a variety of learning activities to ensure they are fully equipped to enter the legal profession.

In addition to practical learning opportunities, Leo Cussen offers its students a range of services to prepare them for their career. Students are able to gain experience in advocacy through their file work, enjoy a personalised mentoring program, and can access career support services through graduate placement and a career advisor.

Leo Cussen graduates have gone on to work in a range of legal and non-legal roles around the world. Notable alumni include Former Prime Minister of Australia the Hon. Julia Gillard MP, and Winner of the 2017 Lawyers Weekly Barrister of Year and the Lawyers Weekly Excellence Award Willliam Lye, OAM.
