Exam Revision Sessions – Trimester 2 2019

UPDATE 1: This is a PAID position – each tutor will be paid $25/hr for their 7 hours of work (5 hours of preparations and 2 hours of teaching)

The Deakin Law Student Society are looking for tutors to run Exam Revision Sessions. We would

love to hear from you if you have excelled in the following units (distinction or above):

W

Constitutional Law

W

Evidence

W

Legal Practice and Ethics

W

Contract Law

W

Misleading and Economic Torts

W

Civil Procedure

The Exam Revision Sessions will consist of one-two sessions held towards the end of trimester that focus on exam revision and preparation. Tutors will be expected to run through difficult concepts and prepare for exams by offering tips relevant to the unit and going through practice exam questions.

This is a position that looks great on the resume and tutors will be rewarded for their time.

Expectations

A tutor will be expected to prepare content that aligns with the unit site. The sessions should focus in
particular on exam preparation which will primarily entail running students through past exam
questions and offering tips. It is for your discretion as to how these sessions should be run but here a
some suggestions:

Giving students a set time to answer a question and then running through it as a group

W

Presenting techniques and exam answer structures in a PowerPoint presentation

W

Splitting the class into small groups where they can collaborate to answer an exam question and then present to the class

W

Having an open and robust discussion

During these sessions it is likely that students will have questions whether it is in regards to content orexam skills in general and you will be expected to adapt on the spot.

There is no expectation that you will always to right – you are a student there to assist as much as possible and make the exam period less daunting!

Academic Expectations

Received at least distinction in the relevant unit

Time Commitment and Payment

Hourly rate is $25

W

PALS tutors are paid for 5 hours of preparation and 2 hour of classes per week

Skills and Characteristics

A tutor will have the following qualities/skills:

Achieved a minimum Distinction in the unit and average a Distinction

W

Confident public speaker

W

Time management

W

Adaptable

W

Creative thinking
