The Vis Moot Team is currently in Hong Kong where the oral rounds of the Vis (East) Moot just concluded. The Deakin Law School team has had its best results at the Hong Kong oral rounds since 2010!
There were 125 teams participating in the Hong Kong leg of the Vis Moot this year, with the top 32 teams progressing through to the elimination rounds. Deakin was one of those top 32 teams, and then progressed one round further, to the final 16 teams. With the Hong Kong competition now so large (there were only 32 teams in total some 12 years ago), breaking through to the elimination rounds is a feat in itself – so it was wonderful for the Deakin team to then progress one round further. The Deakin Team defeated the University of Mannheim from Germany in the round of 32 – until very recently, Mannheim hosted the chair of one of the world’s top sales law professors, who is also a good friend of the Deakin team, and who came along to watch the round. The Deakin Team were then narrowly defeated in the round of 16, by the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, who ultimately went on to be the overall winning team today. The NUJS team area also good friends of the Deakin team – they have been undertaking practice rounds with their teams every year for over a decade.
The Deakin Moot Team will now fly to Vienna to take part in the Vis Moot competition there.
The DLSS wishes them a big congratulations for their efforts in Hong Kong and the best of luck in Vienna!
