Brimbank Melton Community Legal Centre (BMCLC) is currently seeking applications for a volunteer caseworker as part of one of our Health Justice Partnerships (HJP).

The HJP between BMCLC and coHealth is based out of Health Works in Footscray and focuses on the provision of legal services to syringe dependant drug users.

The caseworker position will be an essential presence within the Health Works Lawyer Project and on the sites NSP. The role requires a highly reliable, dynamic and motivated individual with strong interpersonal skills. Experience within a health setting or a social work background is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be working in an environment that is respectful of syringe depend drug users and should have qualities to reflect this.


This is also a fantastic opportunity for a volunteer to gain practical knowledge in a wide variety of legal areas that are relevant to CLC’s including fines and infringements, summary criminal offences, debt and family violence.

Availability – the successful volunteers must be available for a full Wednesday on a weekly basis

Location – the successful volunteers must be prepared to travel to Footscray


Key Criteria:

  • Experience within a Community Legal Centre setting.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and relationship building skills.
  • Resilient and self-motivated.
  • Strong legal drafting skills.
  • Ability engage with a diverse and marginalised client base.
  • Commitment to the principles of Community Legal Centres.
  • Penultimate or final year law students preferred.

The role will require a 12 month commitment.
